Fallout. It's what everyone is afraid of if/when things go nuclear. The blast of a nuclear bomb would be really bad, but if it were just a bomb the damage would end as soon as it starts. Rebuilding could begin as soon as the ground cooled off.
With a nuke, the disaster only begins with the big bang. For decades afterwards the land, the plants, the animals and anything inside the irradiation zone will be affected, slowly dying
Beware the fallout of your actions, your words, your attitude.
In this business, we work all day to pay our bills and take care of 'life' so that we can play hard a few nights each week. We work hard to make connections and build relationships so that we can 'get ahead' in our scene. We play to small audiences who graciously stay out until the butt-crack of dawn to hear you play at dive bars for shows that don't pay.
We work the crowd, we do our best to communicate with promoters, we deal with ignorant bar owners/managers, we bite our tongues when we would be justified in telling some of them 'what's what...' and we put our friends and family aside in many cases so that we can have a chance to continue doing what we do.
If there is a member of your team who is not 'following the rules', you can kiss years of hard work down the tubes.
This is where I tie the analogy to a bomb. We've all had those instances where someone didn't 'follow the rules' or behave. If you have done your part, it can be like a normal bomb. Damage done can be repaired with honest apologies and time re-building trust.
When you have a 'bad apple', it can make things nuclear - and fast! A bad attitude will be remembered and opportunities can be lost forever.
Remember that while it may suck at times, you may have to bite your tongue. The best course of action is to make sure you protect your relationships, your identity or 'Brand' and make sure everyone in your camp 'gets it'. Your hard work can play off. Opportunities will come your way, you've worked hard enough! Take action to make sure you don't ever experience long-term fallout due to actions that can be controlled.
Rock on!
